State & Chambers

If you’ve walked down State Street in the Loop anytime during the last four decades, you’ve likely seen 70-year-old Mr. Chambers with his microphone. He’s usually by the Old Navy—urging you to repent.

Chambers moved to the city in 1961 and started preaching at the corner of State and Washington eight years later. He’s sort of a downtown staple.

He can usually be found at the very same spot, with pamphlets in hand, for up to eight hours a day—gratifying those who agree and offending most others.
